With an area of 176.215 square kilometers, is a the second smallest country of the subcontinent.
Borders with the state of Rio grande do Sul (Brazil) to the north and northeast, to the west with the provinces of Entre Rios and Corrientes (Argentine)of which is separated by the Uruguayan river, and on the south coast is the Rio de la Plata. The southeast coast coast the Atlantic Ocean.
The country is divided administratively into nineteen departments.
It was the first country to establish the right of divorce (1907) and on of the first country in the world to allow women vote.
Population: 3.334.052 persons.
